NJ Eats: Craving a Greasy Burger? Go To Smashburger!

Smashburger is one of the several of the new wave more upscale fast food burger chains that have sprung up in the northeast the past several years.  Several locations have opened in NJ including one within walking distance of my apartment (and one just opened in Brooklyn).

Smashburger serves several a number of signature burgers with a slew of customizable options, including different buns, a variety of interesting toppings (even a fried egg), and some cool side dishes such as fried pickles or rosemary fries, as well as salads and shakes.

During my visit I ordered a "classic smashburger" topped with a fried egg (for $1 extra).  The burger was pretty good but a little greasy, though it was definitely better than what you will find at Wendy's, McDonald's, etc.

They also serve hot dogs and chili dogs.  I ordered an Italian dog, topped with potatoes, peppers and onions.  Served on a poppy hot dog bun.  The hot dog was pretty good but again a bit greasy.

Lastly, I got a side of fried pickles, although again a bit greasy, they were really good and came with a ranch dipping sauce.

All in all Smashburger is a good place for you're in the mood for some junky greasy fast food fare.  The food is tasty and reasonably priced, but if you're watching what you eat look elsewhere for a meal.
