Taverna Kyclades....Yummy Greek Food in Queens!

Was in the Greek neighborhood in Astoria, Queens and wanted to try some simple and home style Greek food. Aside from spinach pies and moussaka, Greek food is known for fresh, simply prepared seafood drizzled with olive oil and lemon.  Taverna Kyclades is one of the more well known places in Astoria and has great lunch special deals from Monday to Saturday, with seafood dishes that comes with a side for a mere $10.  Many of the seafood dishes like the sardines or calamari can be either fried or grilled.

Lunch was already a great deal, and it started out with free toasty bread drizzled with good olive oil.

For apps, we got the saganaki.  (Can you really go wrong
fried cheese??).  Their version was hearty with a thick slab of cheese.

The grilled calamari was generous and cooked very well, but unfortunately they didn't include the tentacles!

The grilled sardines was also excellent, but not for everyone since it is a fish with a lot of small bones.

For sides, I choose the lemon potatoes, which is probably my favorite Greek side dish.

For the other side we chose the dandelion greens, which were bland since they were simply boiled and not sauteed like I've had it.

This is a great spot for Greek food and for lunch in general.  I will have to come back for grilled octopus and the Greek salad, which almost everyone ordered and looked really good.
